Prof. Chan Wing Tai, JP

Professor Chan has served the local academic and social service sector over forty years. As Professor of Applied Sociology, he specialized in social research methods, social service evaluation and quality development. He taught sociology at the Chinese University of Hong Kong in his early years. From 1974 to 1982, he was the Head of the Department at Hong Kong Shue Yan College and has served as Dean of Faculty of Social Sciences. From 1982 to 1988, he served as Assistant Director of the Hong Kong Council of Social Service. He then taught at the City University of Hong Kong and has served as the Head of the Department of Applied Social Sciences. In 1998-2006, he stayed as a part-time lecturer and honorary researcher; and served as the Principal Consultant of the Quality Evaluation Center. In 2002 he returned to Hong Kong Shue Yan College as Professor and Head of the Department of Social Work. Between 2006-2012, on a fractional basis, he was appointed as a Senior Teaching Fellow back in the City University of Hong Kong, teaching social research methods, programme evaluation and other applied sociology graduates courses. He also served as adjunct lecturer at the Hong Kong University School of Professional and Continuing Education (Adjunct Lecturer).

 

Over the years, Professor Chan, in terms of community services, has been members of Social Workers Registration Board Disciplinary Committee, Civic Education Committee, Social Welfare Department's Social Welfare Information Technology Joint Committee, Smoking and Health Committee., Human Organ Transplant Committee (Chairman), Member of the Council of Human Reproductive Technology etc.

Prof. CHAN Yuk Chung

Professor Chan obtained his PhD degree from the University of Nottingham in 1998. Prior to joining CTIHE, he was Associate Dean of the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences in the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

 

Professor Chan has extensive experience in teaching social work at both undergraduate and post-graduate levels. He also supervises Doctoral and PhD students. Professor CHAN has been appointed as external examiners by a number of local and non-local institutions in the field of social work and social sciences. He had been assessment panel member of the HKCAAVQ and is currently assessment panel member of the Social Worker Registration Board.

 

Professor Chan has been actively engaged in research and consultancy work on families for the Hong Kong and Macau SAR Governments. He has published reports for the two governments to impact on their policies on families, specifically on family violence prevention. Besides, he often engaged in collaborative research work with the NGOs to provide them with empirical information on the direction of their social service development.

 

Professor Chan authored and co-authored more than 10 consultancy research reports, over 50 articles/book chapters, and 7 books, including the widely adopted social work textbook “社會工作學新論”.

Prof. CHUI Yat Hung

Professor Chui is a registered social worker, chartered psychologist, certified counsellor and approved counselling supervisor. He is an Ex-President and Fellow of the Hong Kong Professional Counselling Association, Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society. He is also a Global Career Development Facilitator Accredited Trainer. Professor Chui has attained Doctor of Education (Counselling Psychology) from CUHK, Master of Social Sciences from HKU, Bachelor of Science from U of Gloucestershire, UK and Bachelor of Social Work from PolyU. He has taught various undergraduate and postgraduate courses in HKU, CUHK and PolyU with specialization in career and educational counselling and working with young people. He was a school and family work social worker, director of Student Guidance Centre and the Head of the Social Sciences and Education Division in CUSCS and is now the Dean of Students; Head and Professor of the Department of Applied Social Sciences in HKCT Institute of Higher Education.

 

Professor Chui has various publications on career development and planning for secondary and post-secondary students. He always offers lectures and workshops for schools, NGOs, parents, teachers and social workers. In recent year, he actively involved in career facilitator training and promoted the awareness of career planning for the people from all walks of life.

Prof. Edward CHOW

Professor Chow started teaching in primary/secondary schools in 1977 after completing his teacher training. Thirteen years later, he was employed to teach Physical Education (PE) teacher education programmes. He then obtained a Bachelor in Education and a Master of Philosophy in Educational Psychology in The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Sports Psychology in Loughborough University, United Kingdom, in part-time mode, in 12 years.

Apart from teaching, he worked with various institutions and organisations to make contribution in a range of roles – such as, in Hong Kong Baptist University, external examiner of MPhil and PhD dissertations and programme reviewer of the Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education and Recreation Management; in The Hong Kong Institute of Education, guest tutor of Doctor of Education dissertation, and external examiner of Associate Degree in Youth Leadership; Member of the Curriculum Development Council Key Learning Area Committee on Physical Education; Vice-Chairperson of the Hong Kong Amateur Gymnastics Association; Senior Vice-President and Founding Member of the Hong Kong Society of Sport and Exercise Psychology; and peer reviewer of the International Journal of Sport and Exercise Psychology.

 

In 2005, Professor Chow returned to Education and Manpower Bureau and filled the post of Senior Curriculum Officer to steer the development of school PE, particularly the assessment design of Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) PE Elective and related learning and teaching support. In 2018, Professor Chow joined the HKCT Institute of Higher Education being the Head of the Department of Education. He now looks after the academic programmes in sports and early childhood education. His research area is motivation, fundamental movement skills, and sports pedagogy.
